The 2017 MYA IOM Nationals has started with a day of frustrations for all concerned, the forecast light breezes arrived but could not make up their mind as to the direction and despite the best efforts of the experienced race team there were less than 3 races completed, although this did make up 11 heats.
This years event as usual is being attended by members from each district of the MYA with 5 skippers making the long trip from North of the border, with 3 of these being beautifully prepared wooden IOM’s, and so far they have not been found wanting, keep it up guys, but with members from Falmouth to Norwich the strength of the field is going to make it hard for any one skipper to dominate the event.
Others to show promise so far are Bob Conner with his new Britpop, Nigel Brown with his V10 and Pete Smith with his Lintel MMX.
Not a lot more to add so far with a quiet day for the skippers although we suspect that the race team may not consider it quite as quiet.
More of the same forecast for tomorrow, so sun cream to the fore and short bursts of concentration will be the order of the day to secure a good result.
Standings will be uploaded when available and more reports and info can be found on facebook – MYA Downwind! and the GBR IOM twitter feed @gbriom.
